Four people's lives come together in a broken down motel in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina. Told in chapters depicting one of the four major character's point of view, "Greetings" tells the stories of Aggie, a woman whose husband has died and who must sell the motel they've owned together since they were first married after World War II; Willow, whose father is buying the motel to begin a new life after Willow's mother abandoned them; Loretta, who is touring the Smokey Mountains with her adoptive parents after learning that her dead birth mother once visited there; and Kirby, a troubled boy on his way to reform school - his last chance according to his distant, recently remarried mother. As they come together at the motel, they each learn a bit about each other and gain some hope for the future which previously looked bleak for each of them except Loretta. A nice "feel good" story.
