Ondaatje is on eof my favorite living authors, and while he doesn't write much, what he does write is wonderful and this book is no exception. It is completely different from Anil's Ghost--it is about Michael, an 11 year old boy (who is the narrator, and while most of the book takes place while he is on a boat from Sri Lanka to England, there are flashes of what happens as a result of this trip). It is a simple story lushly told.
