As the 2010 winner of the Pura Belpre Award for illustration, perhaps I should not have been surprised at the quality of the illustrations in this book. The story itself is wonderful -- what's not to like about a bilingual book that extends Mexico's Day of the Child to include books? But the illustrations (by Rafael Lopez) and the book design (by Stephanie Bart-Horvath) truly make this book an experience not to be missed. Tonight, when I am reading my book by flashlight, I will think of the picture of the moon and imagine I am sharing my book with her.
