Nanjing Requiem
by Ha Jin
by Ha Jin
This was not a familiar piece of history to me. Still, Ha Jin's works are always well worth reading. An ivy league college becomes a camp for refuges during the rape of Nanjing, and the day-to-day operations and decisions are not easy for those involved. Numbers swell to 10,000, and there is not enough food to go around. The book focuses on Minnie, and American commited to her students and staying in China. What is the fall out from scuh atrocities? Sad, and not one of Jin's best works.
