Please note: I've had the pleasure watching Alasdair on his double knitting adventures over the past 3 years, as we are both on the Board of the Common Cod Fiber Guild. Based on this exposure, I expected "Extreme Double Knitting" to be creative, playful and detail oriented, just like Alasdair. And you know what? It is!
The large size format of the book gives plenty of room for the beautifully large color charts. The photography illustrating technique is flawless and the explanations are careful and clear. The patterns clearly progress along the path of multi color double knitting skill building AND they are things I would really enjoy making. And all of the projects are quite small, which is always a plus!
Published by Cooperative Press, there is the possibility of receiving the digital and hard copy from them, which makes life easier for those who follow their knitting patterns via tablet. The binding of the hard copy lays out nicely, and should wear well. For those who take their pattern books to the copy shop to have them turned into spiral bound books, beware: The margins are quite narrow.
To date, I've only used double knitting to make tubes... one color gloves, the calves of simple toe up socks, etc. But I can see a knitting bender coming on with the projects in the book.
