Charlotte Cassidy loves her life - she is attending the best high school in town, has a beautiful, smart and loving best friend, Sarah, and her and her boyfriend, Harlin, have made plans for happily ever after. Charlotte was adopted by Mercy, an ER nurse, when she was a young girl and has no memory of her life before she was six years old. Charlotte's life would be perfect except she increasingly feels the overwhelming compulsion to help strangers who are in need of divine guidance. Charlotte's been telling Sarah and Harlin that she has increasingly bad asthma, but they know something else is going on. When Charlotte's compulsions start occurring daily and her skin begins turning gold, she goes to her family doctor, Monroe, for help. Monroe has been watching Charlotte and waiting for her to exhibit signs of her heritage as a member of the Forgotten race. Charlotte is not human, and is hurtling toward a destiny she does not want, but that Monroe urges her to embrace. To complicate matters, Onika, another member of the Forgotten tells Charlotte there is a way to stay on earth, but Charlotte doesn't trust her or her motives. This was a beautifully unorthodox, paranormal romance that I loved - it made me cry and I really hope the sequel brings Charlotte and Harlin some happiness.
