Number five in the series really centers on the importance of the clan, even when the clan has been transplanted to the wilds of rural North Carolina. The books in this series get longer as the series progresses. Gabaldon needs those pages to deal with her compelling characters, the depth of her descriptions and details about the lives of these people she brings us.
