I have to admit that I was disappointed in this story. I love a good historical fiction, when it's well written and historically accurate. There were a number of problems with this book, beginning on the first page when the author refers to the boy in the audience and all of a sudden the boy is a she. The jump from third-person in the intro, to first-person in Chapter 1 (and remains in first-person) is confusing. The vocabulary is not always historically accurate. I don't think an Italian soldier of the Renaissance would use the word "fuck" in his vocabulary.
