I wanted it to be more about the relationships between the Masters and their mistresses. I got the impression from the jacket cover that it was about a hotel in the North where the Slave holders from the South were able to bring their black (slave) mistresses and enjoy a real vacation. That sounded interesting, especially because it was based on a real hotel. The book was more about the relationships between the women who came there each year then with their masters. Still interesting, but not the book I thought I was going to read. I am giving it a high three stars (I know I am a tough star giver!), because I liked it, and would even recommend it....but I wasn't excited about this book.
