I really wanted to read this book and I did, quickly too for that matter. It wasn't a book that I would describe as "enjoyable". The storyline is incredibly simple, a bit dull, and quite monotonous (wiht a few exceptions). I'm sure that the road must be a metaphor - I'm still working on it being something deeper than a metaphor for life, it is a highly acclaimed novel after all. I found the dialogue to be quite dull. At some point, I determined that the writing was perhaps genius as it completely reflects the world McCarthy was describing - dull, gray, monotonous. I suspect this is what earns it such acclaim. I am still trying to figure out where the San Francisco Chronicle found the "miracle of goodness", the last 6 pages??
