A wonderfully, fast-paced horror read. Joe Hill's literary voice has echoes of his father's - Stephen King - especially in the creation of singular characters and a seemingly ordinary world threaded through, or is that 'invaded by' the unthinkable and horribly persistent 'other' world of phantasms. The broken-down rockstar and anti-hero Judas Coyne is utterly unlikeable - although he had me onside when I saw how good he was to his dogs. By novel's end you are rooting for his team. This first novel bids for 'unputdownable' status.
