Roarke’s Schoolie
Read: October 18-19, 2011
2.5/5 stars

I was instantly intrigued nung sinabi ng author that this guy, Roarke, is her favourite hero/main character out of the four guys in her series so I eagerly read her story. Mas inuna ko to kesa sa 2nd book which I bought along with this. (I still haven’t read the 1st book, too.)

What can I say about the book without spilling too much? The story is about this guy, Roarke who is also a geek but is proud to be, he’s the type na hindi aloof sa ibang tao like a stereotype geek is na usually nabu-bully din sa school because most of the times they are better in academic placements kaya maraming nai-insecure and nathreaten sa presence nila, but not Roarke.

I get the author’s point that he’s a great guy na madalas mapapagkamalang errand boy ikanga ni Mia (the main girl character) kasi he usually gets out of his way to help kahit ano at gaano kadami ang trabaho niya; isa pa, he’s someone who doesn’t make the impression that he is superior to you kahit na yun malamang ang totoo. Being an Alpha Geek might be so fitting to describe him.

Natawa ko sa mga terms here in this series kasi mostly dito ko lang nalalaman yung terms nay un, like starter marriage on book 3, then alpha geek on this one. Pero maganda naman ang pagkaka-execute ng story pati yung pagpresent ng ideas because I, myself is not familiar with computer programming and such, di ako marunong gumawa o magkumpuni (nosebleed!) ng desktop or laptop but this didn’t stop me from understanding the gist of the story.

I can see some of my personality in Mia, actually. Hindi rin kasi ako ganoong ka-warm kapag first time ko name-meet ang ibang tao. Madalas tahimik lang ako sa gatherings unless ka-close ko ang mga kasama ko and I very rarely talk first to anyone whom I just saw for the first time. It was nice that in their personality, they couldn’t be more different kasi friendly talaga si Roarke while she’s bordering into anti-social.

About the story, well, maganda naman yung twist kung paano naging sila and all. Parang naguluhan lang ako kung paano narealized ni Mia na in love na siya kay Roarke, and kung paano niya nalaman na hindi na siya in love kay Nid. (oopsie, stopping the spoiler na.) I dunno, parang wala lang gaanong strong distinction for me. Hehe.

Natawa ko dun sa pagbanta ni Roarke about the USB kay Wren. Excited na rin akong basahin ang story ni Wren and Macky. Wren intrigued me so much sa book na to e. Ayan, hahanap na ko ng copy ko, yun na lang ang wala ako e.

I think the author is good kaso yung twists of her stories (based sa 2 books niya na nabasa ko na) ay parang madaling nare-resolved. So, I guess konting build up pa muna, but then again I get na karaniwan o madalas sa Tagalog pocketbooks ay short reads lang so siguro yung intensity na lang of the twist yung dapat ma-improve pa. That’s just my opinion ha. I’m not saying I’m an expert or so, but that’s what I think and I’ll stand for that. :)
