EXPECTATIONS
Readers can expect to find within the pages of this book a flawless rendering of the internal, psychological struggles of a novice submissive in a BDSM relationship. E L James captures perfectly her fears, confusions, insecurities, and internal conflicts as she deals with falling in first love with a man who epitomizes the meaning of dominant.
CHARACTERS
The reader shall discover within this novel two of the most well thought out and in depth characters. The hero Christian Grey admits that he is “Fifty shades of Fu*#&ed up,” which makes the reader want to delve in and learn about each of those fifty shades. The heroine Anastasia Steele is a study in contradictions: smart but naïve, innocent yet sensual, independent yet submissive, and these paradoxes keep the reader captivated and eager to learn more.

I don't know if I like eroticas but I will give it a go. It does seem intriguing. I try to be open minded, but I need plot to go with sex. Gratuitous sex doesn't work for me in books
LOL, loved the review and of course it is my type of book - hee hee, thanks for the recommendation and I will take it in advisement to have something cold to drink to keep me cooled off so I wont over heat, then again I could just go attack hubby - LMAO!
I started the fan fic version, it was a bit out of my comfort zone, I couldn't finish it. But I am so excited she got it published.
E.L. wrote: "Hi P.A. This was awesome! Thank you. I'm so glad you enjoyed the book. All the best x"Thank you for writing such an amazing book. I thoroughly enjoyed and I am currently reading the sequel which I am loving just as much.
P.A., thanks so much for recommending this book. Like many others who commented here, it is a little out of my comfort zone, but I took a chance because I was intrigued, and WOW! I loved it! Not just because of the steamy scenes (which still have me fanning myself!) but because of the touches of humor throughout. The Emails Ana and Christian kept exchanging had me giggling, as did their playful banter. Anyway, thanks! I'll be devouring book 2 as soon as I've finished absorbing this one!
Sylvie wrote: "P.A., thanks so much for recommending this book. Like many others who commented here, it is a little out of my comfort zone, but I took a chance because I was intrigued, and WOW! I read this book due to your review. I wanted to thank you, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. And the subject lines of the emails contained within it.
P.A.,For selfish reasons, I took you up on your recommendation of this book. I hadn't read erotica fiction before and I wanted to compare a sex scene I'd written in my own novel, Not To Us, to make sure I was within bounds and got it right. Seriously, I worry about this stuff.
Whatever. I was curious how an author "in the genre" pulled it off.
So. The story hooked me right away. I live in Seattle; imagine my happy count to discover it was based in my town. Awesome!
The story is amazing, intriguing, intense, dark, and connects well emotionally. (I know. You thought I was describing Christian Grey, for a moment, until that last part).
Finished last night and I'm still thinking about it! This morning I was relieved to find Shades of Darker is already out. THANK GOD. I wasn't going to be able to wait for long before finding out what happens to these two.
Geez, I have my own third novel to write and I wasn't able to put this one down. I love Kindle for a lot of reasons, but being able to read this novel anytime, anywhere was particular helpful. : )

I don't write reviews for every book I read but some of them you just feel compelled to write--this was one of those books. And, I am rereading already in Dec for a group read. LOL
Love this review! I just did an email one ... lol Thanks for recommending Fifty Shades, P.A. It has become one of my favorites. I finished late last night then my Kindle froze downloading the second. I was frantic! I got it this morning though and I'm in Carlie Tango now. I won't be seeing you much for the next couple days and just so you know, it's your fault. :PXx

I now fully appreciate your reveiw P.A. Well done. Thank you again so much for the recommendation. *bows down to the goddess*.

Ordinarily, I'd consider a book like this outside of my reading interests, but you've got me wondering, lol. Sounds like a very intriguing book.
Michelle wrote: "Ordinarily, I'd consider a book like this outside of my reading interests, but you've got me wondering, lol. I recommended it there and mostly everyone said the same thing--that it's normally not the kind of book they read--but they are all loving it. Many of them are saying it's the best book they've read this year. I agree.
Sylvie wrote: "I agree too, and I'm counting the hours until Fifty Shades Freed!"Me too. It's been killing me because one of the girls in the group won that book and has already read it. I am green with envy.
I read the fanfic version, I loved it. Fanfic to published though, my brain gets all jammed up between the fanfic characters and the published characters. But I am thrilled the story was published and wish the author all the deserved success she is getting.
Annmarie (credoroza) wrote: "I read the fanfic version, I loved it. Fanfic to published though, my brain gets all jammed up between the fanfic characters and the published characters. But I am thrilled the story was publishe..."
I heard it was fanfic for Twilight. I honestly don't see it at all. The characters IMO don't resemble Bella or Edward at all. I would never have known.
The writer did a fantastic job with changing the characteristics and genre of the story. She is definitely talented in the ability to do that alone. But I find once you read a great fanfic and then its published, even with the changes making it an original, my brain doesn't let go of the fanfic characters and actually will replace as I read. It's defintely my problem trying to go from fanfic to original version. But I know people are loving it and that is great. It really is a good story.
If what I remember is right, Bella and Ana are both brunettes, and Edward and Christian both have reddish/bronze-colored hair. That's where any similarities end. Ana and Christian are SO much more interesting! (And E.L. James is are far better writer)
Sylvie wrote: "If what I remember is right, Bella and Ana are both brunettes, and Edward and Christian both have reddish/bronze-colored hair. That's where any similarities end. I still like my vampire stories though but it's nice for a change. What I don't get is why, if Christian is supposed to be Edward is he not a vampire. Not only that, Edward is a virgin. Totally different characters.
There are a great many fanfic original stories that use Twilight characters and names. They are definetly not Twilight stories. 50 Shades (MOTU) was an original story. The basic personaity traits of the Twilight characters were there as well as the broad storyline, but thats it.

OMG yes! You are a girl after my own heart. Edward's POV is so much more interesting. And I agree, unfinished, abandoned stories from FF authors or published authors are the absolute most frustrating thing ever!
I like his POV because you can see inside of everyone's head so it's almost like third person POV but better.
Totally agree. From what was posted, I loved it and hope all the time SM will actually finish it one day. It really did make for such an interesting version.
Speaking of Midnight Sun, I wonder if E.L. James has ever considered rewriting Fifty Shades from Christian's point of view? I think it would be an eye-opener-and-a-half...
Sylvie wrote: "Speaking of Midnight Sun, I wonder if E.L. James has ever considered rewriting Fifty Shades from Christian's point of view? Excellent review, PA. Loved this book and it was nice to see it took 2nd place in the Romance category.
Your review is amazing and this book leaves me in awe. I cannot understand it because I don't have that in me and yet I'm devouring it. It's really toying with my mind (and other parts, haha). I've never read anything like it and I'm completely bipolar. It's really difficult for me to explain it except that I'm intrigued as hell.

I don't think you necessarily have to relate to the characters to be intrigued by their stories, and this one definitely sucks you in. My inner goddess loves Christian Grey and his Twitchy palms. LOL
I think that's crucial: I don't have to relate BUT because it's an emotional roller coaster for me I don't know what else to do but to relate. This book is just great.
Jana wrote: "I think that's crucial: I don't have to relate BUT because it's an emotional roller coaster for me I don't know what else to do but to relate.
