Superbly-written book that I enjoyed the process of reading. Woodrell's unique style never ceases to impress me, especially since I live in the Ozark region. The twists in the story, however, are what made me not like it a lot. Three stars is for "I liked it," but I didn't think it was amazing because the content is so dreary. It doesn't have to be happy to "think it was amazing," but having what happens depress the hell out of me kind of killed the buzz.
Characters in Woodrell's stories seem to go either one way (straight to your heart) or the other (to where you loath them). His books continue to create a reaction in me, though, so they are definitely worth the time spent getting through them.
