Nanami is orphaned and homeless after her gambling father skips town and she is evicted from her apartment. Not knowing where to go, she comes across a stranger at a park and helps him fend off a dog. Grateful for her help, he says she can have his house. She doesn't have any other options, and so she follows his written directions and comes to a shrine. Instantly she is assaulted by spirits, and it's learned that the man who "gave" her his house, also gave her his responsibility to be the god of that shrine. What follows is this girl figuring out if she really wants to do this. At first she's just grateful to have a roof over her head, but as she learns more about the shrine's history, she starts to seriously consider her new role regarding it.

And, that's the basic premise. This story is too cute. I love how ornery Nanami and the fox spirit (the former god's familiar), Tomoe, are at each other. They constantly bicker...Tomoe who has watched over the shrine during his master's absence has obvious reasons to be annoyed at this newcomer's floundering. However, Nanami isn't without merit and with a fresh view on things has a lot to add to the equation. I'm curious to see where this story goes. Curious enough to splurge on the next four volumes that should arrive in my mail box next week. Yay new shoujo!!
