Envy (Luxe, #3)
by Anna Godbersen
by Anna Godbersen
This book takes place shortly after Rumors, the last installment of The Luxe novels. After Elizabeth came home to New York, Will was shot and killed by the police and Elizabeth's mother asked her not to tell anyone about her (Elizabeth) and Will's relationship. Now she is coping with the death or her deceased husband and everyone thinks it's because she was supposedly kidnapped. Also, Diana and Henry were caught by Penelope who blackmailed Henry into marriage. He went along with it, never telling Diana why, and now Diana is left wondering what happened and desperate to get him back. Penelope's brother Grayson is in town and stirring up trouble with Diana according to Penelope's instructions. Carolina is still relying on Mr.Longhorn for money and status, though now she has a pact with Penelope to be 'friends.' Carolina becomes less attached to Mr.Longhorn when she meets another powerful, handsome and rich man.
I'd recommend this book for anyone who likes to be left guessing throughout the entire book. Godbersen surprises you with several unexpected twists in the text. There is plenty of drama, gorgeous dresses, scheming, vindictive vixens and charismatic characters. I love this time frame, the very early 1900, and how different yet similar their views are. I love this series and this book did not disappoint. I also love when a book can surprise me, which this book successfully achieved.
