Read from October 27 to 29, 2011

I bought this book (and dipped my toe into the series) on the recommendation of my wife, who had heard nothing but good things about it. It's going to turn out to be a very expensive decision on my part, because I can't picture stopping until I have read the other ten books in the series. At ten dollars each, that's an expensive "try one"!

This was the perfect book to try. From the very first book, Flynn's Mitch Rapp has been a top counterterrorism agent. For this, the eleventh book in the series, Vince Flynn went back and gave Mitch a backstory. How and why did Rapp get into this line of work, how was he trained, and what were his early missions like? The answers are in "American Assassin."

I'm not going to just keep raving. Bottom line: this is a great book, with wonderful pacing and great characters. My next visit to the bookstore will be to begin investing in a complete Mitch Rapp collection.
