Mirka is an eleven-year old Orthodox Jewish girl who lives in a community where all that is really expected of her is to behave, make her sisters look good for marriage prospects, and focus on getting herself married one day. Mirka, however, is a bit of a dreamer. She longs to be the heroine of her own story, and spends time looking for ways to become one without disappointing her family or their traditions. This is a graphic novel that flows quickly and is very entertaining. It is very easy to get behind this heroine who only wants to fight dragons but finds resistance at every turn.
This book was adorable. it was very informative about the Orthodox Jewish way of life. It gives a small glimpse into their culture, heritage, and language. I love books where girls fight the mold to be able to do what they believe is right, even if it sometimes doesn't conform to the traditional way of doing things. I love Mirka's spunk and spirit. This is a great book for girls who want a non-traditional heroine, and a cute book for anyone to read.
