This book has all the normal weaknesses of a book in the middle of a series, but doesn't seem to suffer from the all that badly. The overall flow of the plot lines is very similar to the previous book. Many of the characters go through similar paths in this one as in the last one. This is probably on purpose, since cyclical time is one of the features of the story.

Despite the similarities, I felt this one to be better in many ways. The sub-plots were more interesting, and the conclusion more thrilling. I was bothered by the pacing of the last book because, like many books, the ending was hurried. This one had a very hectic wrap-up-style ending, too, but it seemed to work better now. The rushed writing gelled better with the actual events in the plot this time.
