Sail by James Patterson

James Patterson and Howard Roughan have wrote an outstanding novel Sail. In this novel everybody is at risk of death, many don’t survive. Cardiac surgeon Katherine Dunne has had many terrible twists and turns in her life. Her husband has died and Katherine is barely keeping herself and her family together.
Along came Peter Carlyle, a successful attorney who swept Katherine off her feet. Married for a few years, this gave Katherine time to pull herself together. Katherine decides to put together a family trip for her three children: Mark, the child with a drug problem, Carrie who is suicidal, and Ernie who is anti-social. This trip was to bond the family that had be falling apart for so many years. While on the trip, terrible incidents begin to happen. A single family, stranded in the middle of the ocean must bond together and work to survive.
These kinds of story plots are simply amazing. Each plot is filled with vicious turns and surprising endings. Each chapter ends with a cliffhanger pressuring you to go on. All of the characters have good and bad sides to them. Even the most trusting character like Jake Dunne has secrets of his own. Jake Dunne, uncle to the children, was the navigator of the ship. Jake always saw the best in everything. Peter Carlyle, Katherine’s new boyfriend seems like the perfect guy, but in reality he is a black-hearted person. All this character cares about is himself. Carlyle is my favorite character due to his twisted mind and determination. His nickname is the “Magician” because he can make people disappear. This chilling character brings the book to life. I like Patterson’s books due to the quick paced mood of the books.
This book in particular moves so quickly within a few pages, it’s hard not to put down. These are the questions that the readers must think about while reading the book. It questions the meaning of family and how much family means to an individual, also not to judge a person by the way they look. For instance in the book, some characters look precious on the outside but on the inside, each person is a bad seed. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thriller books. In addition, this book should be read by those within a good maturity level who can handle the book. This book has some adult content and language.
