I had high expectations for this book. I love dogs, and have five of them, all rescues, all older dogs. Sprite of this book was an older rescue, so I anticipated enjoying a pleasant tugging of the heart strings about the owner's experiences with Sprite and his family. Instead, the presentation was somewhat flat for me. The author undoubtedly held Sprite in the highest of regard and that was ably presented, but if found it a bit prosaic and a relatively simple presentation of the day-to-day interactions with the dog.
I discovered the author is a conservative radio pundit after beginning the book. I chose to ignore this and not let it influence me in my reading of the book. He minimized his discussion of things political except as it related to Sprite. At one point, he discusses his email correspondence with Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity about his dog's imminent passing. I expected these exchanges to be in a tone similar to their radio programs if not in content. Instead I w...more
