I've been threatened by my boyfriend that if I don't read this he will disown me.... better get on with it then.

So I've read it, and I have mixed feelings... Probably because I was told what would happen.
I don't deal with unhappy endings well, and if I'm attached to the character that is doomed, it's even worse. So knowing that there is no good ending and having to wait for it to happen was pretty brutal.
The writing is fabulous, his power of description is amazing. The fact that in 120 pages, he can wind you up and rip you up so much is definitely unusual.

Yes, James, I still dislike American literature. But maybe I won't be as harsh next time.
