So I'm not against war books, yet this one I had a hard time getting though. Although I didn't like this book much, there were a couple things I did like. Crane has some key sentences that are just a vivid picture of words that splash. And although if did bother me a little, I almost liked how he rarely assigned names to the characters, instead calling them the "youth", "loud solider", etc. It showed that this story could be about any solider, not just Henry Fleming. The lack of names set apart the characters so the reader can identify more easily. Or at least in my opinion.
Favorite sentence: "Over the river a golden ray of sun came through the hosts of leaden rain clouds."
Weirdly enough though, there are a lot of great quotes in this book, despite my lack of affection towards the book.
