One of the issues I had with the first book in this series prevailed in this one as well. The main character, Jessica, was too powerful and too perfect. It was like she could never make a mistake or get bested. The writing in this book improved compared to the previous one, but it was still too juvenile (hence the all-powerful-and-perfect main character). I found that the only reason I continued reading this book and finished it was Aubrey, whom I really liked. He was by far my favorite out of all the characters; second place would go to Caryn. I didn't care for Jessica at all. I thought she was annoying, the way she acted like she was better than everyone else. She treated Caryn poorly, even though Caryn was just trying to be nice.

Amelia Atwater-Rhodes's writing improved a bit from her last book, but the main character is still pretty much the same.
