I'm reading this right now and really enjoying it. I like how the writer is so personable.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Yes, I really liked this one.

Alex Hey Susanna, do you remember enough about this to say whether it spoils Victorian books right and left? That's the one concern keeping me from reading it right now.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads My memory of it is that no, it's not really spoilerish. My mother's memory of it agrees (she read it in grad school in English, and I did in grad school in history). We both think it's a great book.

ETA: Her comment was, "No, he must read it! It doesn't spoil, it enhances."

Alex Done and done! But if it spoils the end of Count of Monte Cristo, me and your mom are gonna have words.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Extremely unlikely; I don't recall it mentioning French literature at all!
