it was amazing
bookshelves: all-time-favorites

So I finally read this collection of short stories cover to cover, and I'm completely blown away. These stories spoke to me in a profoundly personal way, and I felt immersed in the worlds Doerr created in a way that I rarely ever feel while reading short stories. His stories dealt a lot with altered perception, often using writing characters whose world is turned around because of an illness, like dementia or epilepsy. A lot of his stories are episodic, using breaks to make huge jumps through time, and the whole time I was reading I was just desperate to understand how he makes this work and how I could replicate it in my own writing. This book is officially an all-time favorite, and I can't wait to read more from this author.
