message 1: by Christina (new)

Christina But she comes back! And she reminds the babies that they knew she'd come back. It's scary in a safe way that lets kids work on their fears. I can still hear the rhythms of the lines in my head, though I haven't read it for years. And I can hear my very little boy reassuring himself as we walked up a dark, rural Wisconsin road in the dead of winter with one of the book's lines: "It was dark in the woods and they had to be brave."

message 2: by Carol (new) - added it

Carol I know... it is sweet, but I think Lew was just too little when I first introduced it and it scared him. I think I'll wait a bit ...

message 3: by Christina (new)

Christina As with so many things in life, I suppose it's all in the timing.
