bookshelves: booker-prize-winner, world-war-1

The third part of Pat Barker's Regeneration trilogy and the winner of the Booker Prize.

In this book Pat Barker takes two of her earlier characters, Billy Prior and Dr Rivers, and bases the last thrust of the war from their perspective

Billy and Rivers are worlds apart, but war has no favourites, and the tragedy and waste of it all is portrayed sensitively and to great effect through their different eyes.

Billy is a previous patient of Rivers at Craiglockhart Hospital in Edinburgh. Now discharged, this book opens with his medical for reassignment to the front. Rivers continues his work with young men emotionally and mentally broken by their experiences.
