I was really looking forward to this book, but sadly, it really fell short of my expectations. While the plot was interesting and intriguing - who wouldn't want to go on an European scavenger hunt? - the premise was just a bit ridiculous and the main character, Ginny, bored me to tears. I don't understand why the author had to make this a teen novel. If Ginny was a bit older with some more world experience on her hands, I would have been a little bit more convinced that her parents let her go backpacking through Europe with just the clothes on her back, no money, and a rule that says she can't contact her parents. Instead, she's a pretty teenage girl traveling alone through Europe and sleeping in hostels. I'm surprised that she only had a brief encounter with someone who wanted to take advantage her and only got robbed. Not very plausible. Then there's the fact that while I tried really hard to like Ginny, I just couldn't. She was very one dimensional, and kind of really boring (the other characters weren't much better). My last gripe with the book was that the author injected details into the story that had absolutely no impact on the plot. It was like they were details for the sake of being details, especially when these details made no sense in the long run (like the bathroom scene when she first arrived in Denmark). Overall, I didn't hate the book because I thought it was an intriguing idea, but I just wished that the author took more time in developing Ginny's character.
