Not quite 2.5 but certainly not 3 stars.

I am so disappointed in this book. I probably will not read the remainder of the series.

At times it felt like a lot of the mythology was repeated over and over again. I understand how Dire wolves were created and how this small pack came together. Yes, Rifter has to tell Gwen about his history, but three or four mentions is too many, especially in the final third of the book.

On the subject of mythology, I will confess I took notes once character names starting coming at me fast and furious. Despite the fact I'd read the novella prequel, Dire Warning, the first few chapters felt like character (and information) overload.

I think I'm most disappointed because I loved Ms. Tyler's Blazes, her work as one-half of Sydney Croft and her Hard to Hold trilogy. This book didn't seem on par with those novels at all.
