Sister Carrie
by Theodore Dreiser, Richard Lingeman

Read this book by all means if you like naturalism in literature, and Americana in general.
The characterizations were a little flat, but the tale itself is perfect for the genre. Sister Carrie is a brisk, well written story that provides a particularly clear picture of urban America at the end of the 19th Century.
