really liked it
bookshelves: paranormal-elements, contemporary-romance

This book truly sucked me in once I started it, could not put it down. Here's the gist- heroine is a breast cancer survivor whose fiancé dumped her when she was initially diagnosed. His best friend had been in love with her for years but she shut him out of her life when she was dealing with the cancer. Best friend meets heroine again by chance, and they fall in love. P.S. He happens to be a descendant of the mythical god Triton and has aqua super powers. With self-publishing you never know what you're going to get (although same can be true for traditionally published work), and have to say I was pleasantly surprised by The Calling. While I thoroughly enjoyed the story and appreciate it as a contemporary romance, I definitely would agree with other reviewers about the fact that it was light on paranormal for a paranormal romance, mostly due to the fact that the hero's paranormal heritage was not brought to the forefront of the story until the end. Overall though, very good read.
