really liked it

I spent the first half of the book just absolutely loving the characters and the setting and the story. I got really grossed out, though, by the excess of blood in the second half, which kind of put me off the story. I think the story of unmitigated grief and loss was very believable. Upsetting, yes, with its deadly consequences, but also understandable. I liked Kate, but my favorite character was Taggle. I love that we got to hear his voice - it was absolutely perfect. If a cat could speak, it would have said just what Taggle did. I cried when he (view spoiler), but I wanted to cry even more when he (view spoiler). Is that strange? The ending left me sad and unsettled, but I think the story is incredibly well-done. It is not a book I would choose to read again (the too sad aspect) but one that I think will remain with me.
