Gwen is an average English teen whose family has a somewhat random gene that causes its carrier to time travel. Gwen’s not worried, and not prepared, because everyone in her family believes her cousin Charlotte has the gene, but when Gwen slips into the past 3 times in one day, it’s clear that she has the gene and must be admitted to centuries’ worth of family secrets.
Originally published in Germany, this bestseller has been translated into English (and, perhaps, English history and culture?) and is getting good reviews. The characters – especially the teens – are fairly interesting and believable, with plenty of light humor and a romance between Gwen and her reluctant time-travelling companion Gideon. The plot has some neat turns and good suspense, although there is nothing really spectacular here, just good storytelling. The rest of the trilogy is due to be published in the States soon.
