bookshelves: 2008, mystery

A new amateur detective is introduced in this book--presumably the start of a new series--and her hook is that she's a graphologist, a handwriting expert.

That's a pretty interesting job, and I do wish that the heroine had spent more time actually doing that job, rather than running around trying to solve this mystery. That made it seem even more unbelievable to me than it might have been otherwise.

As always, the protagonist falls for the investigating officer. Predictable.

There's a lot of venturing alone into dark spaces and unsavory areas, and the main character might have figured out who the murderer was a little sooner if she'd just been more open-minded.
