Reading this beloved picture book made me ready for the first snowfall. The wallpaper sample illustrations will please the reader's eye. All of the empty colored space helps to show how small a child really is in the world, and also emphasizes the huge wonder of what is the first snow of the winter. The sounds of the words as you read them aloud also mimic the actions that Peter makes in the snow. The reader can hear the crunch of the snow, and the sound the stick would make as you drag it. The illustrations also help the reader to see what Peter is doing in the snow. The whimsical feeling that accompanies this classic story will still be felt by new readers, and savored by older readers that just wanted to revisit this feeling. This story is a must-have acquisition for libraries that serve children, and is also highly recommended for readers ages 4 to 7, or any age.
