Atlanta Burns is a bent but not quite broken spitfire of an anti-heroine, and Shotgun Gravy is a brisk introduction to her harsh world. Chuck Wendig brews a toxic mix of intolerance and escalation, laced with a folksy cadence that makes its real world horrors scarier because it's all driven by the banality of evil, not supernatural boogeymen.

It's probably a bit premature to call anything "classic Wendig," but between his blog and excellent short story collection, Irregular Creatures, he has such a distinct (and often profane) voice that comes through so loud and clear in this gut punch of a novella, "classic Wendig" just seems fitting.
