Read from October 16 to 30, 2011 — I own a copy , read count: 1

I listened to the audiobook read by the author. Overall I enjoyed the book, especially the histories of the US park service, the AT and various features along it. I agree with many viewers who wondered why Bryson persisted in hiking as much as he did. He seems to have enjoyed little of his time in the woods. He gives us many beautiful descriptions of scenes along the way and he brings to life many characters he met - some you feel embarrassed for when you think of them reading Bryson's description of them. Though Bryson gives some useful information about sections of the trail, this is not a book to inspire you to hike the AT. It is more of a personal drama for Bryson, often humorous, often informative, but not inspiring.
