Definitely the best book out of the three MacCarrick trilogy!

Ethan and Maddy is perfect for each other. And I really love that Maddy, though very young, was faced with a very harsh life and not only survived but becomes stronger because of it.

As readers who already familiarize themselves with MacCarrick brothers, knows that Ethan is the eldest and presumably the worst of the three brothers.

The story begins with how Ethan got his scar, how Maddy's mother and father plays role in Ethan's ruination and continued to how Ethan orchestrate their downfall which lead Maddy to live a life in Paris's slum La Marais.

Ethan and Maddy met in book 2 (Hugh and Jane's story)in an illegal courtesan's ball. And after many twist and turn, they agree to get married and grow to love one another. However, Ethan still hide the big secret, that in fact he was the one that ruined Maddy's life so long ago.

What i like about Ethan was that he is not the usual dark and brooding hero in historical romance books. He knows that he is not unfeeling, he just feel too deeply and got hurt too much because of that. He also knows that getting revenge to Maddy is just his reasoning to himself so he can allow himself to come after her.

While Maddy is the best character compare to Anna and Jane. She is undeniably strong, she dealt what world give her and without getting broken in the process.

All in all, it's a very good book and worth to read. It's even worth to read the first two books just to get here..
