This is a magical fairytale which has become worldwide with different versions. Cinderella is a girl who becomes an orphan early in her childhood. Her father re-marries which becomes her evil stepmother and brings two nasty daughters with her. Cinderella grows up and during her teenage years her father dies. Her evil stepmother quickly inherits every last fortune from her husband, leaving Cinderella fatherless, empty and disheartened. The stepmother and her daughters treat Cinderella like a servant until one day she meets a prince in which she falls in love with. The stepmother learns Cinderella’s attraction towards the prince and with this information tampers with it, which prevents her from seeing the prince. The stepmother tries to get her elder daughter to please the prince at every ball but astoundingly fails. The prince finds out that Cinderella is only a servant and is angered by it. But then the truth comes out and he battles his way through, looking to find a feet which fits the beautiful shoe. He finds his princess and they live happily ever after. Some versions portray the stepmother and children as servants, thus reversing their roles which adds humour to the ending!
Cinderella is a moving story and drawn towards key stage one, two children and above. It teaches the effects of good and evil. Cinderella can be used in literacy lessons where children can learn about themes such as morality, freedom, poverty, love, and more and this in turn, will enable them to think in creative ways. This book never fails to touch are hearts and show that children as orphans can find the littlest things to find happiness!
