This was such a popular book that I was hesitant to read it. When I saw the preview for the movie I thought "oh, that looks like a fun movie". Since I don't like to see a movie based on a book before reading the book, I read the book.

Oh my.

It starts out light, comfortable, somewhat sad but bearable. Throws in some funny, kind, sweet. Then, when you are completely invested, it is terrifying and horrible. A fantastic book that is easy to read. I'd recommend it to anyone.

It's the early 60's in the south. Skeeter wants to be a writer. Her mother wants her to get married. In an effort to write about something important, Skeeter discovers a great idea. Will Pandora's box be opened?
