"What Happens When You Eat" is part of the "How Your Body Works" series by PowerKids Press. This book focuses on what happens when food goes through the digestive system as well as tackling health and nutrition questions such as brushing your teeth, what happens when you drink alcohol, drinking enough water, washing your hands, and eating a balanced diet. Rather than showing pictures of the inside of the body, it mostly has colored drawings and diagrams. Interesting facts are laid out on green inset boxes, and "See For Yourself" activities on blue. The book covers a lot of ground, but the writing doesn't flow as well as some I've seen. Also, the packing in of facts, pictures, activities, and captions on every page makes it a little busy and spazzy. Still, it's a good overview and the jumping around might help maintain a kid's interest. It also includes a glossary with a list of random body facts and an index.
