Read from October 15 to 16, 2011

I bought this as a birthday present for my partner and promptly advised him that I wanted to read it.

I'm not a baseball fan. In fact, I don't know much about the sport at all. Mat has been teaching me things here and there - mostly regarding the statistics - so I had a decent enough grasp of the basics when I began Moneyball.

It was a very compelling read. Yes, there were still a few things I didn't understand, but that didn't impact on my overall enjoyment of the book.

I'm not a sports fan either, so the interesting part for me was more how Billy Beane and his team were utilizing stats rather than any descriptions of games themselves.

What I did find telling, and I'm sure many people would agree, was the reaction to the book, as described in the Afterward. Apparently the establishment doesn't like being proved wrong. Who knew?
