really liked it
Read in August, 2011

Read this in preparation for a trip to eastern Europe and found it very engrossing. It is atmospheric and conveys the desperation of intelligent people who sense the tsunami approaching them, but are
helpless to do anything. An empire ruled by an emperor who is out of touch and out of date. Patience
and persistence required as it is a long read. My sister described as one long slow march in keeping
with the story of three generations dependent on the Habsburgs for all good things that come to them.
