I had waited a long time to read this book. I'd read countless blog posts and critical essays that troubled me about the rape culture mentality that is in the novel. Finally, I decided to see for myself. And I was both appalled and frightened by what I read.

I'm taking off the writer hat right now. Instead, I'm approaching this review as an educator of MS & HS females, and I'm approaching it as a woman.

I would be frightened for any young woman to read this novel and to believe that what Patch does to Nora is love. It is the worst case of an abusive relationship I have ever seen. It makes what happened in Twilight look like the model of good relationships. There is no love in the book. There is only lust. That lust is both physically and mentally violent when turned on Nora. Patch messes with Nora's mind...he grabs her wrists, pushes her against walls, pins her down half naked on a bed and tells her he's wanted to kill her for a long time.

Excuse me?

We teach young women that they should speak up, tell an adult, tell the police. Never does Nora really do this, even after she's being stalked by Patch and attacked by the masked figure. She choses more dangerous scenarios to put herself in than a bad B horror movie.

This had the makings of a really interesting book. There was a lot of action and intrigue and suspsense. It's sad that every word out of Patch's mouth had to be either inuendo or mocking.

These 3 reviewers truly capture in depth what I feel about Hush Hush
