I absolutely loved this book...several villains and many of them seeking redemption or leading redeeming lives to atone for past mistakes...and alright I am getting use to reading a James Lee Burke book without Dave Robicheaux...and like Pam am falling in love with Hackberry. But I hope that Mr. Burke is on notice that just because he has found and described an incredibly vibrant territory and has a handsome upstanding (previously a whoremonger and a drunk)hero that he cannot drop Louisiana and Dave. This book really is a Western mystery with all the wonderful description that Mr. Burke puts in his stories that makes you know the land. And then there are the heroes. And the semi heroes like Anton Ling or repentant semi heroes like Cody Daniels or villains like Sholkoff, Jack Collins, Temple Dowling. This story was loaded for bear and I loved it!
