A Night to Remember
by Walter Lord, Nathaniel Philbrick
by Walter Lord, Nathaniel Philbrick
The author’s purpose was to inform other readers about the Titanic. Not only did the author give you facts about what happened, but he also told a story to go along with it. In this book, the way the author uses his words makes the book more interesting.
The theme of this story was survival. When the ship started to sink, no one knew what to do. The people were scatter-brained, and everywhere you looked it was crowded. Families had to split up on lifeboats, which frustrated the parents because of the fact that they knew there was not much protection left for their children. There was only hope left. Each and every person had to work together and fight just so that they could live.
The style of my book would be considered a description. This book explained what the events were during this time period, and showed how every person had to fight for their life. The Titanic took off on April 10th, 1912, and crashed on the 14th of that same month. The author of this book gave very specific details and a time and place for every topic that was talked about and explained in depth.
I thought my book got better towards the end. At first, it moved extremely slow and the information was not very fascinating to me. The book got better as I worked my way to the back reading it. Things got very interesting and more and more facts came to me that I never knew about. Reading this book made me stop and think how good I have it today. It is so sad to think about how many lives were lost on the Titanic. It’s not fair to them. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book besides the fact of how sad it was. Most books about life today interest me more, such as things that I am dealing with in my life at that period of time.
