This is a great book, easily one of my favorites from Eric Carle. It teaches a number of great lessons for young children -- about being kind, that if you go around looking for a fight you'll get one. So it's more than a picture book with a cute story. This is a book every parent should read with their kids. My son loved it; I loved it. An easy five stars.

After reading it, I was a bit appalled to see that the two most recent Amazon.com reviewers claim the book glorifies fighting. Really, anyone who comes away thinking that didn't understand the moral of the book. It's a great opportunity as a parent to sit down with your child and talk about bullying, which affects most children to some degree. It opens up a dialogue. That's what kids need to be getting out of it, not "oh noes, fighting is b-a-d."
