Things have moved on for Toby and she is adjusting to sharing her apartment with her Fetch, May Daye, although everyone else regards this as pretty much a death wish. She is summonsed by the Queen of Mists and named Countess of Goldengreen , which pretty much screams 'trap!'. Toby then learns that Lily is Ill and goes to her aid. It becomes clear that Oleander was involved and that this also has something to do with Toby's mother, Amandine, bringing us back to the mystery of Toby's birth and her origins. Luna also falls sick and things become fairly desperate, especially as it appears that Sylvester is then on the brink of falling into grief struck madness.

Tybalt features strongly and we have a first kiss, albeit with a twist. He continues to be mysterious.

Matters gets worse when the sickness spreads to the Caits.

It appears that Raysel, Oleander and Manuel ( from book2) have all joined together in the campaign to take over the knoll and to dispose of Toby. Proving what is going on is a lot harder in reality although they are assisted when the antidote to the poison is identified.

During an altercation Toby is shot and dies. Amandine makes an appearance and saves her altering her genetic mix and blood to reveal her as significantly more fey than changeling, especially as she is a daughter of the Firstborn.

The Mad Queen enters the mix at this stage with a plot to execute Toby on the pretext of the murder of Blind Michael and Toby is locked in an iron cell and suffers Significantly. Her friends come to the rescue
Raysel is revealed but escapes. Oleander is defeated and killed.

There is a denouement with the Queen who continues to want Toby dead but is successfully beaten at her own game and Toby survives to live another day.

This was an interesting addition to the series. The change in toby's circumstances was well done and the secondary characters of Tybalt, Quentin, Raj, Ludweig continue to make this a very engaging read.
