Nate Marchand and his friends come home from the war hungry and ready to work but they find most people poor and struggling. They put up an advertisment in the general store offering to work doing odds and ends what needs to be done.
A man by the name of Samuel O'Shea hires them to get the Taggert family off his land. When Nate meets the feisty Miss Elisa Taggert she tells him they aren't going anywhere. And she proceeds to get the best of Nate and his friends.
This book has alot of humor in it. Although it does start out slow. Keep up with it because the story is great.
